The majority of secondary school students in the United States are unable to participate in an exchange program.  However, those that participate most frequently descend from families with middle or high income, which exacerbates the gap between low and high income students’ access to meaningful opportunities in the 21st Century.  The virtual exchange is an attempt to close or eliminate the gap between these cosmopolitan and transformative global collaborative experiences.
